we have established a tradition
in our home
that our girls only get "friend" parties
every other year...
i suppose it's not as much of a tradition
as much as it a daddy appeasement tactic.
for two reasons,
one being we don't want their friends
to have to buy a present every year.
the other being their mother
has going-overboard tendencies
and this helps me explain to their father
that everything is absolutely necessary
because it has to sustain them for two years.
(see.. i'm no dummy)
but this is an off year.
and i'm sad.
every girl was born on an even numbered year,
making parties on odd years,
so this year's a dud..
and mama needs to plan a party!
so, i've decided we don't need an excuse
to have parties.
in considering which direction to take,
the obvious choice would be a tea party,
and not that i'm totally ruling that out also,
but i'm leaning more towards a
movie theme night...
where friends can come (giftless of course)
and have a great time.
and i think we should start with one of our
very favorites.
MARY POPPINS!
would it be so terribly hard to
make a movie nowadays that is THAT wonderful?!
i love everything about that movie.
listening to it in the car
has endeared me to Mr. George Banks.
then again i've always been drawn
to the snarkiest person in the room.
his dry humor (complete with a british accent)
couldn't be more wonderful.
but i digress...
stay tuned for movie night details..
coming soon.

I love your idea!! You'd better give me a heads up if you want the uncle to say okay ;)
